WHAT WE DO

Acting for Health uses innovative theatre and creative skills to address complex public health problems including neglected tropical diseases, mental health, disability and behaviour change by working with patients, communities and healthcare providers. The aim is to use communication and confidence-building tools to increase awareness and understanding of disease and disability, ultimately reducing stigma and disease burden.

We work with:

Patients: improve understanding of their condition; raise self-esteem; build bridges with their community

Communities: develop the understanding of diseases; accelerate the inclusion of patients in their communities; communicate complex health and behaviour change messages in an innovative and engaging manner.

Healthcare professionals: improve communication skills and confidence to share complex public health messages; transmit important public health messages in an engaging manner; train the trainers

Global health stakeholders, NGOs, companies: improve the understanding of patients, the communities and healthcare providers' needs and effective communication strategies to provide support them and tailor healthcare messages

Acting for Health engages and empowers patients to regain self confidence and their standing in society through participatory group projects drawn from theatre and acting, despite their disability or disfigurement.

Acting for Health also works with wider communities to convey and teach important and complex health messages to prevent stigma as well as foster an environment for the positive inclusion of NTD patients in communities.

Acting for Health also works with healthcare professionals to teach the skills needed to support patients as well as to pass on the skills needed to train healthcare colleagues.

Through developing skills in creative and independent thinking, as well as communication and understanding others, our participants gain and develop confidence, self-esteem, appreciation & understanding of others, optimism and inspiration and the ability to express themselves.
